Do you ever think how God made all the animals? There must be thousands and thousands of them from the tiny flea to the huge blue whale. What an imagination He must have.

Who would of thought of putting a gold crown on the head of a bird with a long black neck, great big black and white wings and long grey legs, well He did, and we call it a Crown Crane and they look beautiful.

I saw my first crown crane years ago while I was working at the zoo. The zoo was like a big animal supermarket, lots of different animals would be delivered in lots of different crates, then zoo owners from all over the country would come to buy what they wanted for their zoos. So, I got the opportunity to handle lots of different animals. I remember the first time I touched a crown crane its head was like two fairy cakes squashed together with icing on both sides and very fine black feathers on top that felt like velvet and right on top of that a beautiful crown made of feathers that looked like very stiff golden thread . I thought to myself well I wish I could see them flying in the wild. Who would have thought one day I would?

On with our story.

Mr Bawame told me that the people must leave for their homes before it gets dark. There are no streetlamps, no buses, no cars and no electricity in their homes.

Well while I as preaching to my amazement two crown cranes flew over the stage and with their big wings glided over the crowds and into the bush. They had been feeding all day and now were going back to roost for the night because they knew it would soon be dark, but I didn’t! I carried on preaching, but I had made a big mistake because now the people had to hurry home while there was still a little light left and I had not given them an opportunity to come to Jesus. I hadn’t understood how quickly it gets dark in Kenya, its just like when you turn the light switch off. I felt very bad I had let the people down, my friend Mr Buwane down but most of all I had let Jesus down. The next day I was determined to do better.

Pops was pretty sure that the cranes would fly over at the same time every night and so the next evening as soon as I saw the cranes I knew it was time to stop preaching and invite the people to receive the Lord Jesus. Every day was the same, my two crown cranes would fly over I would immediately stop preaching and the people would come and give their lives to Jesus and all before the light went out.

We must let the light of Jesus shine into our hearts, now, while we can say yes to all that Jesus through His Holy Spirit is saying to us. Then, like my friends in Kenya, go on our way knowing the happiness that comes by knowing Jesus.
